Distance in nautical miles and true course between GPS positions – with waypoints, travel time and a great-circle comparison.
Type or paste, latitude first – as decimal degrees, degrees and minutes, or degrees, minutes and seconds. Spaces are fine instead of ° ′ ″.
Distance and course are for the rhumb line: the straight line on the chart, sailed on a constant course. The course is true – for the compass, still apply variation and deviation (Navigation Calculator). The great circle is the shortest route on the globe; over short distances the difference is negligible, on ocean passages at high latitudes it can amount to many miles. 1 nm = 1852 m = one minute of latitude.
Straight line, regardless of land, shoals or channels. Not a substitute for passage planning on the chart.
